Eastwood There were 4 teams in contention to win the league on the last day of the primary school season. Greasley Beauvale who were leading with 10 points lost to Eastwood Cricket club (8 point, Priory 2nd with 9 points lost to Lynncroft. Springbank on 8 points also lost meaning that the cricket club and Greasley tied for first place with 11 points each. By virtue of their last day win over Greasley Beauvale the trophy goes to Eastwood cricket club. Highlights of the last day were the performances of Angus (year 3) for Priory, Oliver and Jake for the Cricket club and Dillans bowling for Springbank. The next cricket for the primary schools of Eastwood takes place on Sunday 11th July when the annual Kwik cricket festival takes place at 10.00am at Eastwood cricket club. Eastwood, 1st July 2010 On the 4th week of the season the cricket club team comfortably defeated Lynncroft. Despite Kyan and Kyle scoring 29 runs at the end of the Lynncroft innings an equally good batting performance saw Oliver and Sam score 39 runs to give the club a 28 run victory. A much closer game in which Scott and Callum scored 17 runs to give Greasley Beauvale a total of 141 ended with Brookhill Leys being 6 runs short despite some very tidy bowling by Abbie and a last wicket partnership of 17 by Abbie and Kirk. Despite Curtis and Aaron turning in respectable bowling figures for Springbank, Jake and Sam scored 33 in their 4 overs for the cricket club. In the other game played Kyan and Kyle top scored for Lynncroft with 16 in their overs but Liam and Sammy finished with 19 to see Greasley Beauvale home by 29 runs. Priory beat the Cricket club by 43 runs with Mitchel and Owen scoring 34 runs in their 4 overs despite Oliver and sam bowling tightly. Greasley Beauvale beat Springbank by 41 runs with Dom and Lewis top scoring for GBP. Josh and Curtis bowled well conceding only 5 runs for 2 wickets in their 4 overs. Unfortunately rain was the victor on Thursday 10th June. Fingers crossed for next Thursday. Only 15 runs separated Brookhill Leys Primary and the Cricket club team. Callum and Mitchell top scored for Brookhill as the school team reached 158 in their 16 overs. Scoring 21 in their last 4 overs Oliver and Sam managed to get the cricket club up to 143, just short of their target. In the other game played, the bowlers and fielders restricted both teams to low scores. For Greasley Beauvale, Melissa had a net score of no runs against her 2 overs by taking two Priory wickets. Liam also had good figures with just 2 runs from his overs leaving Priory with 126 runs. In their innings, Greasley were always behind the run rate with Angus taking 2 wickets for no runs and Frank getting 2 wickets for only 3 runs. This restricted Greasley Beauvale primary to 105 runs, giving Priory a 21 run victory. Eastwood, 25th May 2010 All of the Year 3 and 4 pupils in the primary schools in Eastwood took part in a'Virtual competition' last week. At their own schools they participated in four different activities to score points for their school. The results from each school were emailed to the SSCo who worked out average scores to produce winners in each event. Individual highest scores were also noted. Eastwood, 17th November 2009 The weather held this year for the annual Kwik cricket festival at Eastwood Cricket Club. Eight teams from the Primary schools of Eastwood competed in two pools of 4 with each team playing the other three in their pool. The fourth placed teams from each pool, the third placed teams, the runners up in each pool and the winners of each pool then played off to decide the final placings. The 'B'teams of Priory and Greasley Beauvale finished 7th and 8th respectively, Brookhill Leys pipped Lynncroft for 5th place while Priory 'A' had a twelve run win over Eastwood Juniors in the 3rd/4th play off match. In the final, Will and Kyle scored 22 in their 2 overs as Greasley Beauvale amassed a respectable total of 151. For the Cricket Club, Jake and Sam with 29 and Tom and Marcus with 35 helped their team to the biggest score of the day of 185 for victory. Congratulations to the Cricket Club team and thanks to Mark Smith for running the festival. Eastwood, 14th July 2009 The final week saw the two unbeaten teams meet to decide the champions. Tom and Daisy top scored for the Cricket club who finished on 132. With three balls of their innings to go the game was still in the balance but Owen and Frank held their nerve to see Priory home as champions with a 5 run victory. (See photo of Shield presentation in the Gallery). Eastwood, 9th July 2009 The penultimate week of the season saw Brookhill Leys record their first victory with a win against Eastwood Juniors. Brandon and Lewis top scored for Eastwood but Abbie and Connor W hit 24 off 3 overs to see Brookhill Leys home. The Cricket Club maintained their unbeaten season with a massive total of 222 with Ollie amd Finley putting on 48 runs in 4 overs. Despite a steady innings by Daisy and Charlotte and a knock of 35 runs by Sam and Ben, Greasley Beauvale were always behind the run rate. The final games of the season will see the two unbeaten teams, Priory taking on the Cricket Club to decide the champions. Please note that on Sunday 12th July, the annual Kwik cricket festival will be held at the Cricket club. Starts at 10.00am with 8 teams playing in two pools of 4 followed by play offs. Eastwood, 6th July 2009 Round three of the league matches saw just one game played but what a game Lynncroft and Greasley Beauvale served up. GB scored 123 in their innings with Ryan and Ben hitting 21 in their last wicket stand. Ben and Joe for Lynncroft seemed to have the game in the bag when they started the last over needing 4 to win. Unfortunately for them a wicket off the penultimate ball saw the win go to GB by 2 runs. The next round of matches will be played on 2nd July. Eastwood, 19th June 2009 The second round of the league took place on Thursday 11th june with all six teams playing. Greasley Beauvale recovered from defeat the previous week to out score Brookhill Leys. GB scored 147 with Ben and Ryan scoring 31 in the last 4 overs while BL were restricted to 98. Priory scored 175 and kept the Eastwood score to 78 with tight bowling across the team which ensured a comfortable victory. The closest match of the night saw the Cricket club team edge past Lynncroft by scoring 15 runs in their last two overs to eventually give them a win by 16 runs. Eastwood, 15th June 2009 Despite starting two weeks late due to rain, the league matches got off to a flying start on 4th June. Lynncroft defeated Eastwood Juniors with Ben and Joseph putting on 24 in their 4 overs despite Liam getting 2 wickets in his spell for Eastwood. Current champions Greasley Beauvale suffered a first match loss to Priory with Frank, Liam and Finn getting two wickets each to restrict Greasley to a low score which Priory overcame comfortably. Eastwood, 4th June 2009 All six of the Eastwood family of schools sent children to the Barber Sports centre on Monday 19th January for an afternoon of Inclusive Activities. Eleven year 10 students from Eastwood Comprehensive, who had previously completed the Disability Awareness course, officiated the carousel of activities. There were many positive comments from staff, parents and pupils about the event and the leadership skills of the Eastwood students. See Gallery for photographs. Eastwood, 22nd January 2009 All five Eastwood schools were present in the heats of the sports hall athletics for the first time ever. Photos of the teams can be seen on the Photo gallery. Eastwood, 23rd October 2008 The final rounds of matches were played on Thursday 3rd July at the Eastwood cricket club ground. Greasley Beauvale Juniors won both their matches to finish the season with a 100% record and take the winners Shield. Doyle Hutchinson and Sam Meakin top scored for Greasley with opening stands of 28 and 38 while the bowling of Daisy Humphries and Amy Hoddle produced combined figures of 8 overs, 15 runs for 3 wickets in the two matches. The cricket club team finished second, losing only one match with Lynncroft in third place. Without doubt the standard of cricket this season has been higher than previously . Particular note must be made of the high standard of fielding which was produced by Greasley in all of their matches. Eastwood, 6th July 2008 The matches scheduled for this week were brought forward a day because of a clash with the District sports. Only two games were played but a contest between two of the unbeaten teams saw Greasley Beauvale beat Priory by 63 runs to go top of the league. Joe Coxon,Ryan Davey, Joe Blackbourne and Jack Smith put on 63 runs in the last 8 overs to give a total of 191. This was despite Owen getting figures of 2 for 7 in his two overs and Frank bowling a maiden over for Priory. In the other match Lynncroft set Eastwood Juniors a target of 159 with Reece and Stephen scoring 32 in their 4 overs. Only Ollie and Dylan looked like threatentening the target with a partnership of 20 but eventually Eastwood finished on 121. Eastwood, 26th June 2008 At last the Eastwood Primary schools cricket league got it's 3rd season going when three matches were played at the attractive setting of Eastwood Cricket club. Joe Blackbourn and Jack Smith for Greasley Beauvale put on 35 runs to set Brookhill Leys a daunting target of 159 runs.This was despite Aaron Coyle and Sam Brown bowling their 4 overs for only 1 run and taking 1 wicket. Eventually Greasley won by 80 runs. Seven runs was the difference between Lynncroft and Eastwood Cricket club. Ben and Denby top scored for Lynncroft with 16 runs in their 4 overs but Oliver and Sam saw the cricket club home with 23 in their last 4 overs. A weakened Eastwood Juniors were well beaten by Priory with only Tom and Jake making headway against some good bowling by Priory, particularly Liam, who took 3 wickets in one over and Frank who bowled two maiden overs and picked up a wicket. The standard of batting, bowling and particularly some of the fielding has improved immensely since the leagues started 3 years ago. The games start at 4.00pm next Thursday, weather permitting. Eastwood, 27th May 2008 Thirteen Sports Leaders from Eastwood Comprehensive assisted at the North Broxtowe Inclusive festival for children at KS 1 & 2 on Thursday 24th January at the Greasley Beauvale Leisure Centre. Having successfully completed a Disability Awareness course at the beginning of the month the students put into practice what they had learnt. Several members of staff from the primary schools commented very favourably on the expertise, enthusiasm and empathy of the Eastwood leaders. See photo gallery for pictures. Eastwood, 24th January 2008 Of the five scheduled matches in the Eastwood Primary schools cricket league, only the first took place. The cricket club ground has been waterlogged since that first fixture on 7th June. To make matters worse the annual Kwik cricket festival planned for today, Sunday 15th July (St Swithins day) had to be cancelled. Let's hope we are luckier next season. Eastwood, 15th July 2007 The schools with key stage 2 children competed in an athletics event during the afternoon of Thursday 5th July at Lynncroft Primary school fields. Forty year 10 sports leaders from Eastwood Comprehensive led the events at which 200 pupils from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 participated. Certificates were awarded to all participants, to the highest scoring teams in each event and to the best behaved team. Photographs in the Photo Gallery show some of the events. Eastwood, 15th July 2007 The morning of Thursday 5th July provided a window of dry weather and surprisingly dry fields at Lynncroft primary school where the annual Eastwood family year 2 athletics events took place. The five schools with Key Stage 1 children brought almost 180 pupils who participated in obstacle relay, throwing, kicking at a target, running with a ball and bean bag passing activities. All the children received certificates and the top scoring teams in each event and best behaved team got a commendation. Forty Year 10 sports leaders again showed their growing confidence as they demonstrated and officiated. Photographs of the event can be seen in the photo gallery. Eastwood, 15th July 2007 Over fifty Year 3 and 4 children from the primary schools in Eastwood took part in a Rounders festival on Thursday 21st June. After warming up and being coached by Y10 sports leaders the Year 3/4 s started a round robin of rounders matches. Five minutes into the second match the rain started and it rained and rained. Shelter was taken in the school hall after a wet 'fun run' from the fields. Everyone received a certificate and the rain stopped in time for the walk back to their respective schools. Eastwood, 29th June 2007 The fourth test at the Riverside in Durham between England and The West Indies wasn't the only cricket match affected by rain. For the first time in three years the cricket matches in the Eastwood primary school league have been the victim of the weather. All fixtures on Thursday 14th June had to be cancelled with each team receiving two points. Eastwood, 14th June 2007 The first matches of the new cricket season got under way at Eastwood Cricket club on Thursday 7th June. Last year's league champions, Lynncroft, got into their stride with a narrow 16 run victory over Brookhill Leys. The last pair, Wes and Josh, put on 19 runs for Lynncroft to see them home. Excellent fielding by Greasley Beauvale helped them to a comfortable win over Eastwood Juniors with Jack and Isabell scoring 20 runs in their 4 overs. Five runs was the difference between the Cricket Club team and Priory Primary. Needing to score 9 from the last over, the loss of a wicket cost Priory the match. The cricket club scored consistently with batting pairs Oliver & Lewis and Dan & Callum scoring 21 in each of their innings. Eastwood, 30th April 2007 Almost 200 girls in Key Stage 3 had dedicated football coaching sessions in the spring sunshine at Eastwood comprehensive on 19th April. Coaches from Notts County football in the community put the girls through their paces with a view to recruiting more girls into the Tuesday night coaching sessions. Eastwood, 30th April 2007 Greasley Beauvale Year 3 tennis teams have had a terrific run in the mini tennis red competition. After both boys and girls teams had won the Kimberley and Eastwood heat they took on the winners of the Stapleford and Bramcote heat for a place in the Youth games finals. The girls finished second but the boys team won to take them to the final. In the finals they won all three matches in their pool to reach the play-off final against South Wilford. In a great contest played with skill and good sportsmanship Greasley were jusy pipped and had to settle for runners up spot in Nottinghamshire. The first ever indoor rowing competition was held at Eastwood Comprehensive on Monday 19th march at 3.30pm. Schools competing were Kimberley, George Spencer, Eastwood, Chilwell and Bramcote Hills.
