Bramcote Park This year marked the first ever annual White Hills Park Federation Dance festival. The event, held at Bramcote Park school included performances from Eskdale, Alderman White School, Bramcote Hills School, Sunnyside, Bramcote Hills Primary, Bramcote Church of England School, Alderman Pounder and Roundhill. The rehearsals took place in the afternoon then friends and family of the acts were invited to take in the performance in the evening. Bramcote Park, 9th February 2010 During the heavy snowfalls in January, we made good use of the great outdoors! We try really hard to incorporate learning outdoors into our curriculum and this provided a brilliant opportunity for this. The children were given the task of designing, planning & creating a school snowman and had to work together in teams of five or six children – the objective being to produce a snowman! The skills involved included speaking and listening, designing, negotiating, cooperating, distributing (limited) tools fairly and project-managing!!! One of the best outcomes was the amount of physical exercise taking place! The results were very impressive! Tracey Travers (P.E. coordinator/Acting Head Teacher) Bramcote Park, 9th February 2010 Historcally, Albany had a separate nursary building with lots of outdoor space. This leant itself to super Physical Development opportunities for its children. Last year they moved all of Foundation Stage One children into the main school building to form an Early Years Foundation Stage Unit. This really benefited the Early Years curriculum as well as transition and planning opportunities. However, Albany Infants was concerned that the outdoor spaces were not as good as they were and so wanted to create a practical large outdoor area where the children could experience physical development activities more easily. They also wanted an area where the children were able to access outdoor learning more freely. After researching various funding available to put towards costs, the Infant School was able to go ahead with plans to extend the playground area and design what the new facility would look like. The softpour surface area is now complete and is fenced, and they are installing climbing frames and other outdoor equipment soon. Already, the EYFS children are making good use of the area and it will be even better once the equipment is installed! Staff are delighted with this new outdoor facility! Bramcote Park, 19th March 2009 Bramcote Park Business and Enterprise School has launched a massive program of intra form competitive opportunities for Years 7 to 11. The program aims to increase pupil participation to match the Partnership's average last year of 49%. The entire concept was developed by Year 10 JSLA pupils. The group are responisble for advertising, team sheets, fixtures, leagues and results sheets, liasing with form sports captains and ultimately refereeing the competitions and scoring! All in all, they are responsible for the entire process! Those Leaders who show strong leadership and communication skills have excelled in the refereeing element of the competitions but there has been no shortage of organisational jobs for those less confident leaders. So far Year 7 forms have been competing in Dodgeball and Badminton at lunch and we have seen 50% of pupils from all 7 forms turn up to get a slice of the action. If this trend continues Park should see 50% of all pupils participating in intra form competition for the year 2008/09. Last years percentage was 29%! Bramcote Park, 19th March 2009 20 Bramcote Park girls where given the fantastic opportunity to use the Junior Gym at Bramcote Leisure Centre this Spring for absolutely free!! As part of the already hugely successful ‘Go Girl’ initiative the girls were given 10 weeks use of the facility after school along with a free induction and the chance to have a personalised training program to work to! The aim was to encourage the girls to participate in physical activity in their own time after the 10 weeks was up. Bramcote Park SSCo commented, “I chose girls that would really benefit from this programme, girls who did not do much out of school already. I have seen a positive effect on their attitude around school”. One of the yr 11 girls stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 weeks and definitely plan to continue to use the gym in the future. It has given me the incentive to keep my weight down!”. Bramcote Park, 19th March 2009 Wadsworth Fields Primary School's OSHL timetable has kicked off with an energetic start this term with activities including; short tennis, tri-Golf, multi-skills, football and country dancing!!!These pupils are enjoying dance with Mrs Gray and looking forward to practising for the cheerleading and dance festivals at Bramcote Park School next term! Bramcote Park, 19th March 2009 On Friday 10th October all Year 6 pupils from the recently merged Frederick Harrison Infants and Stevenson Juniors, took part in Playground Buddy Training. Following the training the pupils have devised a 3 week rota for taking it in turns to organise playground games for the main school children at playtimes and the lower school children at lunchtimes. Two Year 6 pupils are responsible for a different game each day. Our Playground Buddies are good at explaining the games to the younger children and encouraging them to join in. The younger children enjoy playing these physical activities and are therefore experiencing happier and healthier playtimes!! Bramcote Park, 19th March 2009 Congratulations to Bramcote Park's Boccia team who won the recent Boccia league! The Boccia League was a new idea set up this year and was ran in collaboration with Broxtowe Sports Development. Bramcote Park, 2nd April 2008 This February, saw Bramcote Park’s Sports Leaders combine their developing Leadership experience with a Citizenship coursework module… The Leaders’ citizenship project was on developing a community event and they thought what better than to combine this coursework with organizing a festival - something they are getting quite good at! The majority of the Citizenship class comprised of Sports Leaders and they were able to take the rest of their class under their wings! Year 4 pupils from Stevenson Junior School were invited up to Bramcote Park to take part in a mini Olympics Multi-Skills Festival. Pupils rotated around 5 Athletic type stations, including speed bounce, standing high jump and long jump, and a seated ball throw. The activities climaxed in a mass relay race involving all the Year 4 pupils. Bramcote Park, 4th February 2008 Congratulations to Bramcote Park's Year 10/11 Boys team who came first in the Broxtowe Cross Country Competition which was superbly ran by Eastwood School. The Year 10 Netball team also won the Broxtowe competition! Thanks to Neil Smith for organising that. He truely is a wonderful man. Bramcote Park, 13th December 2007 This September, Albany Infant School held a Healthy Eating Week! Throughout the week pupils were involved with a range of activities that promoted healthy eating. Activities included a healthy tuck shop (children could buy a pot of fruit), Football Sponsorship Challenge to raise money, Healthy baking & menus, and daily workouts (more elaborate Wake-&-Shakes!!).They ended the week with a whole school PE lesson where the children signed up for the activity they wanted to do - they chose from large apparatus, hockey, tennis, multi-skills, football, cheerleading, aerobics and athletics. Teachers & TAs ran the sessions and they had a range of children from Foundation Stage, Year One & Year Two in their lesson!!! Great fun had by all!! Bramcote Park, 1st November 2007 Bramcote Park is getting its very own extra curricular Archery Club! Working in conjunction with Broxtowe Sports Development, Bramcote Park will get a fully qualified coach who will introduce and teach the sport to pupils. Pupils are very excited to be getting the opportunity to take part in this non mainstream sport. Bramcote Park will offer this club up first, to pupils who are currently reluctant to take part in OSHL clubs. We aim to increase the numbers of pupils accessing after school clubs and provide activities which will appeal to all! Bramcote Park, 29th October 2007 Bramcote Park successfully bid for £10000 from Awards for All to purchase and set up an indoor canoe club. With the help of British Canoe Foundation members of staff were trained up to deliver the club to pupils. The club has initially been opened up to pupils who have previously shown a disinterest in participating in after school clubs in a bid to get more pupils involved in OSHL. We aim to create a link with Bramcote Leisure Centre which has recently started up an indoor kayaking club in the pool. Pupils who enjoy the sport at school will, therefore, get the opportunity to participate at club level. Future plans involve setting up a link with an open water kayaking club. Bramcote Park, 29th October 2007 Bramcote Park Year 9/10 Rounders team narrowly beat George Spencer to a smooth victory in the final of the Broxtowe Rounders Competition. The tournament was originally called off mid way through before the finals could be played due to severe rain, but this didn't put either teams out of there swing (excuse the pun!!) Bramcote went ahead after the first innings but then after a strong come back from a hard hitting Spencer side it looked like either team could win the title. In the end Bramcote won with 8 rounders to Spencer's 6. A close game. Congratulations to the winners!! Bramcote Park, 11th July 2007 The Bramcote Park Youth Games representatives achieved success in this year's Disability Youth games. Lauren and Louise Harrison were part of the Girl's Football squad and they came first place winning the Gold medal! The Boccia team received the bronze medal by coming third in the district! Well done guys!! Bramcote Park, 11th July 2007 Tuesday 10th July saw Bramcote Park's 2nd Annual Top Link Primary Festival. The event took place at Bramcote Park and we were lucky that the weather held out for the entire day!!! The morning session was attended by Frederick Harrison, Albany Infants and St John's Infants and the afternoon session saw Stevenson and St John's juniors get their slice of the action. Bramcote Park Junior Sports Leaders were responsible for the planning and organising of the event and their efforts were commended by several of the visiting staff. All pupils had a whale of a time - they participated in football skill games, rounders and obstical/relay type activities. Watch this space for some photographic action of the day's events!! Bramcote Park, 11th July 2007 Congratulations to Bramcote Park's Year 10/11 Athletics Team who won this summer's competition held at Harvey Hadden Athletics Stadium. Several pupils from the team went on to represent Broxtowe at the District Competition in June. The Year7/8/9 team came Runners-Up. The Year 7 Athletics Squad came Runners-Up in the Year 7 Athletics Competition. Well done to all! Bramcote Park, 2nd July 2007 Bramcote Park's Mountain bike club is now up and running. The club, which is ran by Rich Cam, an externally funded coach, takes place on a Tuesday afternoons from 3.30pm to 5pm and is open to any pupils from Bramcote Park School. There has also been a community link set up with Broxtowe Sports Development who uses the bikes out of school hours for use with a local triathlon club. Anyone interested in either of the clubs should contact Andrea Kilbane on 0115 9130013. Ultimately Bramcote Park hopes to feed its riders into a community bike club so everyone can enjoy cycling in their own time. Bramcote Park, 11th May 2007 Parents from Albany Infants and Stevenson Juniors attended training ran by Bramcote Park's SSCo on how to run an after school Active Club at their child's school. Active Clubs are aimed at increasing pupil's heart rates through fun and energetic activities. These schools are very fortunate to have volunteer parents increasing school sports clubs on offer to their pupils. If you are interested in running your own Active club at your child's school contact the school PE coordinator.
