Kimberley On Thursday 12th February 2009, twenty four children from Hollywell Primary School, Kimberley took part in a rowing event organised by The Kimberley School. Teachers and young leaders from The Kimberley School arranged and supervised the event in which the Hollywell children were divided into six teams who then competed against one another in a series of different rowing competitions devised by Mr Rob Yates who oversaw the event. All the children enjoyed both the rowing and the competitive element of the event and at the end of the exhausting session agreed that it had been incredibly good exercise and a lot of fun. Kimberley, 27th March 2009 Each year the Eastwood and District Primary Schools Sports Association, which comprises 17 primary schools, holds a Swimming Gala at the Kimberley Leisure Centre swimming pool. This year the Swimming Gala was held on Tuesday 3rd February and Hollywell assembled a team of talented and enthusiastic children who this year hoped to win the coveted Shirley Naylor Swimming Trophy. Throughout the Gala the Hollywell children performed well picking up six First Places, four Second Places and four Third Places. The Cannon Relay Team of six children, three girls and three boys, raced over six lengths of the pool against four other schools and competed really well to finish in second place. Despite gaining a high number of points throughout the Gala, the Hollywell Team finished very proud Runners Up. Kimberley, 27th March 2009 The Kimberley Family of schools are being slowly converted to technology with the arrival of a host of rowing machines. With a total of nine Concept 2 machines (with 4 being rotated around the Primary Schools), The Kimberley School hosted a rowing competition on Thursday 12th February for over 100 year 6 pupils from a range of schools. The Kimberley Sports Leadership Academy and other volunteers helped run the event under the careful supervision of Mr R. Yates (our resident rowing expert). All pupils involved had a great time and are eager to use the machines on a regular basis. Well done to all involved and pictures of the day can be viewed in the picture gallery. Kimberley, 27th February 2009 Over 450 pupils arrived at Kimberley school over the two dates to take part in the Sports Festivals for the younger pupils. The Kimberley School provided around 50 sports leaders to entertain, support and encourage the younger ones in a variety of activities ranging from football, basketball, indoor rowing and boccia to dance, hockey and potted sports. The Year 4 Festival was unique in that all schools were competing for a range of trophies for each individual events as well as the overall winners plate. To see pictures of both events, go to the picture gallery. Kimberley, 5th December 2008 Kimberley staff and pupils rallied together and ended the Spring term in style with a multitude of events to raise money for Sport Relief. Staff versus pupil games of Netball and Basketball started the money rolling in, followed by a healthy tuck shop (sixth form). The highlight of the week was hundreds of pupils running the Sport Relief mile on the school grounds. The run was all voluntary and it was a pleasure to see so many pupils wanting to run. The pupils all donated money to do this and others raised extra through sponsorship. In total around £800 was raised with more money trickling in. Well done Kimberley School! Kimberley, 3rd April 2008 Friday 7th December A group of year 10 girls on the Pretty Fit scheme (funded by the Big Lottery) were rewarded for their participation in the project with a trip to Nottingham Climbing Centre. All of the group were eager and enthusiastic (and some a little nervous!) and raring to get up the walls. Not only did the girls climb whatever was put in front of them, they learnt how to belay for each other and coach the climbers on where to put their hands and feet. The group loved the session and looked very smart in their hooded tops (more rewards!). Photos from the day are on the photo gallery. Kimberley, 7th December 2007 A Grand total of 184 year 5 pupils descended upon Kimberley school for the Multi-Skills Festival held at Kimberley school. All pupils took part in fun and informative sessions run by a crack team of Junior Sports leaders (year 10 pupils). Sessions included Basketball, Dance, Hockey, Rugby and Football (not to mention Mrs Croft's world renowned warm up routine!) and both leaders and pupils were enthusiastic throughout. See the photo gallery for some shots! Kimberley, 16th November 2007 Sixteen new buddies are trained and ready for action at Larkfields Infants School. Eight year 2 pupils and eight year 1 pupils were well behaved and eager to take on everything I had to throw at them. They are now all armed with their all important Buddy cap and official certificate to prove they are the cream of the crop! Kimberley, 16th November 2007 Congratulations to all three Kimberley teams who played in the league during September and October 2007. The league was hosted by Eastwood and included Alderman and White and George Spencer. Well done to all players, managers, sixth-form assistants and to Mr Gell and Eastwood school for organising the fixtures. Kimberley, 29th August 2007 Each year the Eastwood and District Primary Schools Sports Association, which comprises 17 primary schools, hold a Swimming Gala at the Kimberley Leisure Centre swimming pool. This year, following improvements at the Leisure Centre, the Swimming Gala was held on Friday, 2nd March. Hollywell, having finished in second place for the last four years, assembled a team of talented and enthusiastic children who this year hoped to win the coveted Shirley Naylor Swimming Trophy. Throughout the Gala the Hollywell children performed well picking up six First Places, six Second Places and one Third Place. The icing on the cake was the result of the Cannon Relay race in which six children from each school, three girls and three boys, compete over six lengths of the pool. For much of the race Hollywell and Gilthill tied neck and neck but over the last two lengths Hollywell began to pull away and won by a quarter of a length thus assuring their victory in the Gala. After four years in second place Hollywell at last finished as Champions, a well earned victory. Kimberley, 29th August 2007 Well done to all those pupils from Kimberley School who were involved in ‘Spotlight’, an evening of dance. The evening was a great success and had Joseph Hall in attendance from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Joseph gave a performance on the night and followed up with a workshop for all the pupils that had been involved in the evening. Much work and preparation had gone into the event and all should be congratulated. Kimberley, 29th August 2007 Back in February, all the Year 7 pupils were involved in the ‘Get Fit Kids’ project which promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages children to find ways of developing their fitness. All the pupils were inspired by a British gymnast who took the children through their paces and then provided them with a gymnastics display. The pupils were sponsored for taking part and some of the money raised went to the school fund. Kimberley, 29th August 2007 The Year 1 Festival held at Kimberley in the summer term was well attended by all the feeder primary schools. Everyone involved including the young leaders and the teachers enjoyed the action packed day. The children responded well to all the new activity challenges and said they wanted to come back again next year. Great response, just what we wanted to hear! Kimberley, 29th August 2007 |
