July 2009 The weather held this year for the annual Kwik cricket festival at Eastwood Cricket Club. Eight teams from the Primary schools of Eastwood competed in two pools of 4 with each team playing the other three in their pool. The fourth placed teams from each pool, the third placed teams, the runners up in each pool and the winners of each pool then played off to decide the final placings. The 'B'teams of Priory and Greasley Beauvale finished 7th and 8th respectively, Brookhill Leys pipped Lynncroft for 5th place while Priory 'A' had a twelve run win over Eastwood Juniors in the 3rd/4th play off match. In the final, Will and Kyle scored 22 in their 2 overs as Greasley Beauvale amassed a respectable total of 151. For the Cricket Club, Jake and Sam with 29 and Tom and Marcus with 35 helped their team to the biggest score of the day of 185 for victory. Congratulations to the Cricket Club team and thanks to Mark Smith for running the festival. Eastwood, 14th July 2009 The final week saw the two unbeaten teams meet to decide the champions. Tom and Daisy top scored for the Cricket club who finished on 132. With three balls of their innings to go the game was still in the balance but Owen and Frank held their nerve to see Priory home as champions with a 5 run victory. (See photo of Shield presentation in the Gallery). Eastwood, 9th July 2009 The penultimate week of the season saw Brookhill Leys record their first victory with a win against Eastwood Juniors. Brandon and Lewis top scored for Eastwood but Abbie and Connor W hit 24 off 3 overs to see Brookhill Leys home. The Cricket Club maintained their unbeaten season with a massive total of 222 with Ollie amd Finley putting on 48 runs in 4 overs. Despite a steady innings by Daisy and Charlotte and a knock of 35 runs by Sam and Ben, Greasley Beauvale were always behind the run rate. The final games of the season will see the two unbeaten teams, Priory taking on the Cricket Club to decide the champions. Please note that on Sunday 12th July, the annual Kwik cricket festival will be held at the Cricket club. Starts at 10.00am with 8 teams playing in two pools of 4 followed by play offs.
