Each year the Eastwood and District Primary Schools Sports Association, which comprises 17 primary schools, hold a Swimming Gala at the Kimberley Leisure Centre swimming pool.  This year, following improvements at the Leisure Centre, the Swimming Gala was held on Friday, 2nd March.  Hollywell, having finished in second place for the last four years, assembled a team of talented and enthusiastic children who this year hoped to win the coveted Shirley Naylor Swimming Trophy.

Throughout the Gala the Hollywell children performed well picking up six First Places, six Second Places and one Third Place.  The icing on the cake was the result of the Cannon Relay race in which six children from each school, three girls and three boys, compete over six lengths of the pool.  For much of the race Hollywell and Gilthill tied neck and neck but over the last two lengths Hollywell began to pull away and won by a quarter of a length thus assuring their victory in the Gala.  After four years in second place Hollywell at last finished as Champions, a well earned victory.

Well done to all those pupils from Kimberley School who were involved in ‘Spotlight’, an evening of dance.  The evening was a great success and had Joseph Hall in attendance from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.  Joseph gave a performance on the night and followed up with a workshop for all the pupils that had been involved in the evening.  Much work and preparation had gone into the event and all should be congratulated.

Back in February, all the Year 7 pupils were involved in the ‘Get Fit Kids’ project which promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages children to find ways of developing their fitness.  All the pupils were inspired by a British gymnast who took the children through their paces and then provided them with a gymnastics display.  The pupils were sponsored for taking part and some of the money raised went to the school fund.

The Year 1 Festival held at Kimberley in the summer term was well attended by all the feeder primary schools.  Everyone involved including the young leaders and the teachers enjoyed the action packed day.  The children responded well to all the new activity challenges and said they wanted to come back again next year.  Great response, just what we wanted to hear!
