June 2007 Over fifty Year 3 and 4 children from the primary schools in Eastwood took part in a Rounders festival on Thursday 21st June. After warming up and being coached by Y10 sports leaders the Year 3/4 s started a round robin of rounders matches. Five minutes into the second match the rain started and it rained and rained. Shelter was taken in the school hall after a wet 'fun run' from the fields. Everyone received a certificate and the rain stopped in time for the walk back to their respective schools. Eastwood, 29th June 2007 Finally on June 19th, after a previous postponement, over 160 children from Beeston Fields and Round Hill Primary Schools took part in an afternoon of sporting activity planned and organised by the Year 11 Junior Sports Leaders from Alderman White School. On a week when almost every other day was wet, the afternoon took place in almost perfect weather. Judging by the smiles on the faces of the children who took part it was an extremely enjoyable event. Special mention must be made of those JSLA students from Alderman White who came into school from their study leave during the midst of their GCSE exams. Alderman White, 29th June 2007 Over 50 children from Round Hill Primary School took part in the Partnership Dance Showcase at the Nottingham Arts Theatre on April 26th. The Foundation Stage 'Lion King' dance took the honours in the 'Aaah' category, years 2 & 3 performed their Counttry dances with superb timing and the year 6 'Grease' compilation wowed the audience with their energy, enthusiasm and expertise! Parental comment about the whole evening has been excellent. Alderman White, 29th June 2007 The fourth test at the Riverside in Durham between England and The West Indies wasn't the only cricket match affected by rain. For the first time in three years the cricket matches in the Eastwood primary school league have been the victim of the weather. All fixtures on Thursday 14th June had to be cancelled with each team receiving two points. The table now looks like this;- W L NR Pts Greasley Beauvale 1 0 1 5 Cricket Club 1 0 1 5 Lynncroft 1 0 1 5 Brookhill Leys 0 1 1 3 Eastwood Juniors 0 1 1 3 Priory 0 1 1 3 Matches continue next Thursday weather permitting. Eastwood, 14th June 2007 The first matches of the new cricket season got under way at Eastwood Cricket club on Thursday 7th June. Last year's league champions, Lynncroft, got into their stride with a narrow 16 run victory over Brookhill Leys. The last pair, Wes and Josh, put on 19 runs for Lynncroft to see them home. Excellent fielding by Greasley Beauvale helped them to a comfortable win over Eastwood Juniors with Jack and Isabell scoring 20 runs in their 4 overs. Five runs was the difference between the Cricket Club team and Priory Primary. Needing to score 9 from the last over, the loss of a wicket cost Priory the match. The cricket club scored consistently with batting pairs Oliver & Lewis and Dan & Callum scoring 21 in each of their innings.
